Abstract

We present an exact analytical solution of the fundamental system of quasi-one-dimensional spin-1 bosons with infinite delta repulsion. The eigenfunctions are constructed from the wave functions of noninteracting spinless fermions, based on Girardeau's Fermi-Bose mapping. We show that the spinor bosons behave like a compound of noninteracting spinless fermions and noninteracting distinguishable spins. This duality is especially reflected in the spin densities and the energy spectrum. We find that the momentum distribution of the eigenstates depends on the symmetry of the spin function. Furthermore, we discuss the splitting of the ground state multiplet in the regime of large but finite repulsion.

Exact Solution for Infinitely Strongly Interacting Fermi Gases in Tight Waveguides

Liming Guan, Shu Chen, Yupeng Wang +1 more

We present an exact analytical solution of the fundamental systems of quasi-one-dimensional spin-1/2 fermions with infinite repulsion for an arbitrary confining potential. The eigenfunctions are constructed by the combination of Girardeau's hard-core contacting boundary condition and group theoretical method, which guarantees the obtained states to be simultaneously the eigenstates of S and S_{z} and satisfy antisymmetry under odd permutation. We show that the total ground-state density profile behaves like the polarized noninteracting fermions, whereas the spin-dependent densities display different properties for different spin configurations. We also discuss the splitting of the ground states for large but finite repulsion.

Mathematical calculation for exact solutions of infinitely strongly interacting Fermi gases in tight waveguides

Zhong-Qi Ma, Shu Chen, Liming Guan +1 more

Exact analytical solutions of the fundamental systems of N quasi-one-dimensional spin-1/2 fermions with infinite delta repulsion in an arbitrary confining potential were presented in our previous letter (Guan et al 2009 Phys. Rev. Lett. 102 160402). The solutions are the simultaneous eigenstates of the Hamiltonian H and the total spin operators S 2 and S z , which fulfil Girardeau's hard-core contacting boundary condition and are antisymmetric under odd permutations among fermions. They are approximate solutions when the coefficient in the delta repulsion is large but finite, and according to the Lieb–Mattis theorem, the solution with the lowest S is the ground state for the system. A detailed mathematical calculation for the exact solutions is presented. The property of the spin-dependent reduced one-body density is discussed.

Momentum distributions and numerical methods for strongly interacting one-dimensional spinor gases

F. Deuretzbacher, D. Becker, Luis Santos

One-dimensional spinor gases with strong $\ensuremath{\delta}$ interaction fermionize and form a spin chain. The spatial degrees of freedom of this atom chain can be described by a mapping to spinless noninteracting fermions and the spin degrees of freedom are described by a spin-chain model with nearest-neighbor interactions. Here, we compute momentum and occupation-number distributions of up to 16 strongly interacting spinor fermions and bosons as a function of their spin imbalance, the strength of an externally applied magnetic field gradient, the length of their spin, and for different excited states of the multiplet. We show that the ground-state momentum distributions resemble those of the corresponding noninteracting systems, apart from flat background distributions, which extend to high momenta. Moreover, we show that the spin order of the spin chain---in particular antiferromagnetic spin order---may be deduced from the momentum and occupation-number distributions of the system. Finally, we present efficient numerical methods for the calculation of the single-particle densities and one-body density matrix elements and of the local exchange coefficients of the spin chain for large systems containing more than 20 strongly interacting particles in arbitrary confining potentials.

Exact solution for the degenerate ground-state manifold of a strongly interacting one-dimensional Bose-Fermi mixture

Bess Fang, Patrizia Vignolo, M. Gattobigio +2 more

We present the exact solution for the many-body wavefunction of a one-dimensional mixture of bosons and spin-polarized fermions with equal masses and infinitely strong repulsive interactions under external confinement. Such a model displays a large degeneracy of the ground state. Using a generalized Bose-Fermi mapping, we find the solution for the whole set of ground-state wave functions of the degenerate manifold and we characterize them according to group-symmetry considerations. We find that the density profile and the momentum distribution depends on the symmetry of the solution. By combining the wave functions of the degenerate manifold with suitable symmetry and guided by the strong-coupling form of the Bethe-Ansatz solution for the homogeneous system, we propose an analytic expression for the many-body wave function of the inhomogeneous system which well describes the ground state at finite, large, and equal interaction strengths, as validated by numerical simulations.

Exact solutions of a one-dimensional mixture of spinor bosons and spinor fermions

Shi-Jian Gu, Junpeng Cao, Shu Chen +1 more

The exact solutions of a one-dimensional mixture of spinor bosons and spinor fermions with δ-function interactions are studied. Some new sets of Bethe ansatz equations are obtained by using the graded nest quantum inverse scattering method. Many interesting features appear in the system. For example, the wave function has the SU(2|2) supersymmetry. It is also found that the ground state of the system is partial polarized, where the fermions form a spin singlet state and the bosons are totally polarized. From the solution of Bethe ansatz equations, it is shown that all the momentum, spin and isospin rapidities at the ground state are real if the interactions between the particles are repulsive; while the fermions form two-particle bounded states and the bosons form one large bound state, which means the bosons condensed at the zero momentum point, if the interactions are attractive. The charge, spin and isospin excitations are discussed in detail. The thermodynamic Bethe ansatz equations are also derived and their solutions at some special cases are obtained analytically.

Spin-chain model for strongly interacting one-dimensional Bose-Fermi mixtures

F. Deuretzbacher, D. Becker, J. Bjerlin +2 more

Strongly interacting one-dimensional (1D) Bose--Fermi mixtures form a tunable $XXZ$ spin chain. Within the spin-chain model developed here, all properties of these systems can be calculated from states representing the ordering of the bosons and fermions within the atom chain and from the ground-state wave function of spinless noninteracting fermions. We validate the model by means of an exact diagonalization of the full few-body Hamiltonian in the strongly interacting regime. Using the model, we explore the phase diagram of the atom chain as a function of the boson-boson (BB) and boson-fermion (BF) interaction strengths and calculate the densities, momentum distributions, and trap-level occupancies for up to 17 particles. In particular, we find antiferromagnetic (AFM) and ferromagnetic (FM) order and a demixing of the bosons and fermions in certain interaction regimes. We find, however, no demixing for equally strong BB and BF interactions, in agreement with earlier calculations that combined the Bethe ansatz with a local-density approximation.
