Quantitative aspects of entanglement in optically driven quantum dots

Abstract

We present an approach to look for the existence of maximum entanglement in a system of two identical quantum dots coupled by the F\"orster process and interacting with a classical laser field. Our approach is not only able to explain the existing treatments but also provides further detailed insights into the coupled dynamics of quantum-dot systems. The result demonstrates that there are two ways of generating maximum entangled states, one associated with far off-resonance interaction and the other associated with the weak-field limit. Moreover, it is shown that exciton decoherence results in the decay of entanglement.

Decoherence Effects on the Generation of Exciton Entangled States in Coupled Quantum Dots

Ferney J. Rodríguez, Luis Quiroga, Neil F. Johnson

We report on exciton-acoustic-phonon coupling effects on the generation of exciton maximally entangled states in N = 2 and 3 quantum dot systems. In particular, we address the question of the combined effect of laser pulses, appropriate for generating Bell and Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger entangled states, together with decoherence mechanisms as provided by a phonon reservoir. By solving numerically the master equation for the optically driven exciton–phonon kinetics, we show that the generation of maximally entangled exciton states is preserved over a reasonable parameter window.

Dynamics of entanglement for coherent excitonic states in a system of two coupled quantum dots and cavity QED

Yu-xi Liu, Şahin Kaya Özdemir, Masato Koashi +1 more

The dynamics of the entanglement for coherent excitonic states in the system of two, coupled, large semiconductor quantum dots ${(R/a}_{B}\ensuremath{\gg}1)$ mediated by a single-mode cavity field is investigated. Maximally entangled coherent excitonic states can be generated by cavity field initially prepared in odd coherent state. The entanglement of the excitonic coherent states between two dots reaches maximum when no photon is present in the cavity. The effects of the zero-temperature environment on the entanglement of excitonic coherent state are also studied using the concurrence for two subsystems of the excitons.

Decoherence and quantum entangled exciton states in semiconductor quantum dot molecule

A. Hichri, S. Jaziri, R. Ferreira

Recently a pair of vertically aligned quantum dots has been suggested as optically driven quantum gate. The later is built when two different particles, an electron and a hole, are created optically. The two particles form entangled states. We study theoretically the dynamics of a single heavy hole exciton confined in a small vertically coupled quantum dot. We use harmonic potentials to model the confining of electrons and holes and calculate the exciton's energy spectrum using the Hund-Mulliken approach, and including the Coulomb interaction. The entanglement may be controlled by the application of external electric field. At certain times of dynamical evolution one can generate a maximally entangled coherent exciton state by initially preparing the quantum dots in a superposition of coherent state. In ideal situations, entangled quantum states would not decohere during processing and transmission of quantum information. However, a real quantum system is inevitably influenced by its environment. Since, we study the decoherence effect caused by the interaction of the confined carriers with the acoustic phonon effects. (© 2004 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)

Entanglement and bistability in coupled quantum dots inside a driven cavity

Arnab Mitra, Reeta Vyas

Generation and dissipation of entanglement between two coupled quantum dots (QDs) in a cavity driven by a coherent field is studied. We find that it is possible to generate and sustain a large amount of entanglement between the quantum dots in the steady state, even in the presence of strong decay in both the cavity and the dots. We investigate the effect of different parameters (decay rates, coupling strengths, and detunings) on entanglement. We find that the cavity field shows bistability and study the effect of relevant parameters on the existence of this bistable behavior. We also study the correlation between the cavity field and the entanglement between the dots. The experimental viability of the proposed scheme is discussed.

We show that by modulating the field driving a cavity with two coupled quantum dots in the presence of cavity and dot decays, can periodically generate much larger entanglement than the maximum steady-state value.

Controlled creation of entangled states of excitons in coupled quantum dots

Z. Kis, Emmanuel Paspalakis

We present two methods for the controlled creation of entangled exciton states in a laser-driven system of two identical quantum dots interacting via an energy-transfer process. The first method uses rotation of the two-particle states and is used for the creation of entanglement between the vacuum state and the biexciton state. The second method is based on adiabatic passage techniques and is used for the creation of a single-exciton entangled state.
