Abstract

We show that a scalable photonic crystal nanocavity array, in which single embedded quantum dots are coherently interacting, can perform as an universal single-operation quantum gate. In a passive system, the optical analogue of electromagnetically-induced-transparency is observed. The presence of a single two-level system in the array dramatically controls the spectral lineshapes. When each cavity couples with a two-level system, our scheme achieves two-qubit gate operations with high fidelity and low photon loss, even in the bad cavity limit and with non-ideal detuning and decoherence.

In this paper, a scalable photonic crystal cavity array, in which single embedded quantum dots (QDs) are coherently interacting, is studied theoretically. Firstly, we examine the spectral character and optical delay brought about by the coupled cavities interacting with single QDs, in an optical analogue to electromagnetically induced transparency. Secondly, we then examine the usability of this coupled QD–cavity system for quantum phase gate operation and our numerical examples suggest that a two-qubit system with fidelity above 0.99 and photon loss below 0.04 is possible.

In this Chapter, with the nanocavities in photonic crystal, we theoretically introduce, derive, and demonstrate the robust implementation of a single spin-photon phase gate in a cavitydipole-cavity system. The conditions of accidental degeneracy are examined to enforce complete transfer, either in the forward transmission or in reflection, of the qubit. In addition, we observe that a photon pulse is strikingly reflected by a cavity interacting with a single spin, even under the bad-cavity limit. This combined nanocrystal-cavity system,

Single photon nonlinear optics in photonic crystals

We coherently probe a quantum dot that is strongly coupled to a photonic crystal nano-cavity by scattering of a resonant laser beam. The coupled system's response is highly nonlinear as the quantum dot saturates with nearly one photon per cavity lifetime. This system enables large amplitude and phase shifts of a signal beam via a control beam, both at single photon levels. We demonstrate photon-photon interactions with short pulses in a system that is promising for ultra-low power switches and two-qubit quantum gates.

A scheme for direct implementation of a two-target qubit controlled phase gate with quantum dots in coupled photonic crystal cavities without using classical laser pulses

Xinxin Jiang, Wen‐Xue Cui, Shi Hu +2 more

We propose a scheme to implement a three-qubit controlled phase gate with one control qubit and two target qubits using quantum dots (QDs) in two coupled photonic crystal (PC) cavities A and B. In the scheme, three QDs are embedded in two coupled photonic crystal cavities and the transitions between the levels are only coupled to the cavity modes without being driven by the classical laser fields. We investigate the dynamics of the system consisting of resonant and off-resonant couplings between the cavity modes and QDs and solve the time-dependent Schrodinger equation analytically. The results show that a three-qubit controlled phase gate can be directly implemented using one operational step, by exchanging a single photon between the PC cavities A and B. This scheme greatly simplifies the gate operation in experiments.

Ultra-low power all-optical switching with a single quantum dot in a photonic-crystal cavity

We study the dynamics of the interaction between two weak light beams mediated by a strongly coupled quantum dot-photonic crystal cavity system. We demonstrate switching between two weak pulsed beams (40 ps pulses), observing an increase of the systems transmission when the signal and the control pulses overlap inside the cavity. Our results show that the quantum dot-nanocavity system enables fast, controllable optical switching at the single-photon level.
