Abstract

We exactly solve the ferromagnetic spin- 1/2 Ising model on the Bethe lattice in the presence of an external magnetic field by means of the equations of motion method within the Green's function formalism. In particular, such an approach is applied to an isomorphic model of localized Fermi particles interacting via an intersite Coulomb interaction. A complete set of eigenoperators is found together with the corresponding eigenvalues. The Green's functions and the correlation functions are written in terms of a finite set of parameters to be self-consistently determined. A procedure is developed that allows us to exactly fix the unknown parameters in the case of a Bethe lattice with any coordination number z. Nonlocal correlation functions up to four points are also provided together with a study of the relevant thermodynamic quantities.

Green's-Function Analysis of the Ising Ferromagnet

F. Burr Anderson

The method of the two-time temperature-dependent Green's function has been used to analyze the Ising model of a ferromagnet in an external magnetic field. The selection of a particular Green's function enables us to write an exact expression for the equation of motion. We are then led to a differential difference equation for the correlation function corresponding to the Green's function. No decoupling assumptions have been made, so the equation is exact for both arbitrary spin and range of interaction. It is shown how various approximate theories may be extracted from our formalism. The exact differential difference equation may be reduced to a partial differential equation. The latter form allows us to generate relations among the magnetization and spin-spin correlation functions. These relations are given in detail for the case of spin \textonehalf{} and $z$ nearest neighbors.

Exact correlation functions of Bethe lattice spin models in external magnetic fields

Chin‐Kun Hu, N. Sh. Izmailian

We develop a transfer matrix method to compute exactly the spin-spin correlation functions $〈{s}_{0}{s}_{n}〉$ of Bethe lattice spin models in the external magnetic field $h$ and for any temperature $T.$ We first compute $〈{s}_{0}{s}_{n}〉$ for the most general spin-$S$ Ising model, which contains all possible single-ion and nearest-neighbor pair interactions. This general spin-$S$ Ising model includes the spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ simple Ising model and the Blume-Emery-Griffiths (BEG) model as special cases. From the spin-spin correlation functions, we obtain functions of correlation length $\ensuremath{\xi}(T,h)$ for the simple Ising model and BEG model, which show interesting scaling and divergent behavior as $\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{h}0$ and $T$ approaches the critical temperature ${T}_{c}.$ Our method to compute exact spin-spin correlation functions may be applied to other Ising-type models on Bethe and Bethe-like lattices.

Theory of the Ising Ferromagnet Using the Green Function Method

Takehiko Oguchi, Ikuo Ono

The Green function method is applied to the Ising model of ferromagnetism. It is essential in this paper that we have solved the equations for the Green functions in terms of the correlation functions without using the approximation of decoupling the Green functions as is usually done. Although we get several rigorous relations between the many-spin correlation functions, we do not succeed in solving for the correlation functions, except in the case of a linear chain. We introduce the approximation of eliminating some of the correlation functions using the high temperature expansion, so as to reduce the number of the independent correlation functions. The Curie points of a square lattice and a simple cubic lattice are calculated.

Green’s function study of one-dimensional spin-1/2 Ising-Heisenberg ferromagnets

W. J. Zhang, J. L. Shen, Jian Xu +1 more

The one-dimensional spin-1/2 Ising-Heisenberg ferromagnets are studied by the Green's function method at finite temperatures. The Green's function is decoupled in terms of the correlation functions of 〈${\mathit{S}}_{0}^{\mathit{z}}$${\mathit{S}}_{\mathit{n}}^{\mathit{z}}$〉 and 〈${\mathit{S}}_{0}^{+}$${\mathit{S}}_{\mathit{n}}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}}$〉 under the constraint of 〈${\mathit{S}}^{\mathit{z}}$〉=0, from which a set of self-consistent equations are derived and solved numerically. The thermodynamic properties such as internal energy, specific heat, and zero-field parallel susceptibility are calculated. Our results predict the correct behavior for the correlation functions and thermodynamic quantities in the entire temperature region, in agreement both with the exact numerical results on the finite chain and the experimental data.

Green's function approach to the Ising model

K. C. Lee, Robert Barrie

It is shown that the spin [Formula: see text] Ising model can be formulated as a spinless fermion many-body problem and that the Green's function technique can be applied to it. The hierarchy of Green's function equations of motion terminates at the (q + 1)-particle Green's function, where q is the coordination number. This finite number of equations yields Fisher's transformation of correlations. The technique discussed in this paper can be used to obtain exact results for the one-dimensional Ising model.

Thermodynamics of low-dimensional spin- 12 Heisenberg ferromagnets in an external magnetic field within a Green function formalism

Tatiana N. Antsygina, M. I. Poltavskaya, Igor Poltavsky +1 more

The thermodynamics of low-dimensional spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ Heisenberg ferromagnets (HFMs) in an external magnetic field is investigated within a second-order two-time Green function formalism in the wide temperature and field ranges. A crucial point of the proposed scheme is a proper account of the analytical properties for the approximate transverse commutator Green function obtained as a result of the decoupling procedure. A good quantitative description of the correlation functions, magnetization, susceptibility, and heat capacity of the HFMs on a chain and square and triangular lattices is found for both infinite- and finite-sized systems. The dependences of the thermodynamic functions of two-dimensional HFMs on the cluster size are studied. The obtained results agree well with the corresponding data found by Bethe ansatz, exact diagonalization, high temperature series expansions, and quantum Monte Carlo simulations.
