Yonsei University is set to open South Korea’s first quantum computing hub on November 20, featuring an IBM Quantum System One with a powerful 127-qubit processor. This marks a significant milestone, positioning South Korea as a new center for quantum research and innovation. Until now, local researchers accessed quantum technology mainly through costly, delayed cloud services from the U.S. The new center aims to boost quantum R&D, especially in biotechnology, where quantum computing may drastically shorten drug discovery timelines. Located in Songdo’s biotech hub, the facility will support industry-academia collaborations, allowing companies to leverage quantum capabilities for specialized research.
