Rigetti and Riverlane have achieved a significant milestone in quantum computing by demonstrating real-time, low-latency quantum error correction on Rigetti’s 84-qubit Ankaa™-2 system. This collaboration integrates Riverlane's quantum error decoder into Rigetti's control system, allowing for faster-than-microsecond error correction without data backlog—an essential step towards fault tolerance. Fault-tolerant systems could eventually handle long operations without errors, a key requirement for scalable quantum computing. Rigetti CEO Dr. Subodh Kulkarni emphasized the speed advantage of their superconducting qubit systems, which is crucial for practical quantum applications.
