Quantum advantage for NP approximation? For REAL this time?

External link
Scott is joking about QAOA and quantum advantage in quantum dating apps in the he first half of this article.
In the second part he becomes serious about the Decoded Quantum Interferometry (DQI) for which he seems to have some hope as a candidate algorithm to demonstrate quantum advantage. I haven’t heard about, but sounds very interesting.
Anyone here being able to explain DQI in simple terms?
