Celebrating the International Year of Quantum 2025

Celebrating 100 Years of Quantum Physics
Celebrating 100 Years of Quantum Physics
The United Nations has announced that 2025 will mark the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ). This global initiative will celebrate the importance and impact of quantum science and its adoption across industries.
Aqora is proud to align with this vision by driving advancements and fostering innovation in quantum computing through competitions and real-world solutions. As a member of the Open Quantum Institute (OQI) community, we are committed to advancing the global development of quantum computing and making it accessible for all.

What is the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology?

The International Year of Quantum (IYQ) started as a movement among a small group of scientists, educators, and historians to raise public awareness about quantum science and technology’s past and future impact on human development.
2025 was chosen and declared the year of quantum by the United Nations on 7 June 2024 at a General Assembly meeting. The year-long initiative aims to celebrate the advancement of quantum science and commemorate 100 years since the development of quantum mechanics.
Among the many milestones paving the way toward 2025 and beyond are groundbreaking efforts by companies like Quantinuum. The company has set plans to achieve universal, fully fault-tolerant quantum computing by the end of 2030.
Additionally, they’ve partnered with Microsoft to develop an end-to-end scientific workflow that combines AI, high-performance computing (HPC), and quantum technologies to tackle complex challenges.
Developments like these underscore the huge potential that quantum computing will have across various industries in the coming future. As the quantum ecosystem continues to evolve, it will reshape the way we approach innovation and problem-solving on a larger scale.

Why Quantum Computing Is Important

Although quantum computing is still in its early stages, it holds promising potential to transform industries and tackle real-world problems more efficiently compared to classical computing. It introduces a new paradigm of computation, capable of generating data that cannot be sampled from a classical computer and solving problems that are beyond the reach of classical methods.
With this potential, it offers hope for tackling complex issues around the world. However, significant progress is still needed to fully realize its capabilities.
Recently, the European Commission has launched an ambitious project to combat climate change by incorporating quantum sensors for Earth monitoring. These sensors enable the collection of precise data on environmental changes, including melting glaciers, rising sea levels, groundwater, and ocean circulation.
Besides that, quantum computing holds the promise to improve the adoption of clean energy, support pharmaceutical development and drug discovery, improve machine learning capabilities, enhance the supply chain, and assist in financial forecasting, among others.

Aqora’s Role in IYQ 2025

With a commitment to empowering the global quantum community, Aqora aims to be at the forefront of shaping the future of quantum science and establish itself as a leader in the quantum ecosystem.
